Looking For Equality

Am I different, or is it you?
One of us is different, but who?

Your skin looks different than mine.
I believe that that is fine.

I’ve heard people say that’s not right.
I’ve heard it even causes many to fight.

I don’t believe you’ve done anything to them.
From where does this hatred stem?

We both have two arms, legs, and eyes.
Each morning we both get up and rise.

Through the years being told no and being banned.
Is the problem that they don’t understand?

We all come to earth the same way.
We all have a birth-day.

Unless you hurt someone I love or me.
Be it they, he or she.

I choose to live by your side.
As we all go on this life‘s ride.

The question remains, am I different, or is it you?
You let me be me and I’ll let you be you.
